Do you get tongue tide like me, when people ask you for your favorite travel destination? Personally, I find it impossible to pick just one. I have been privileged to visit so many amazing places and honestly can appreciate every single one for different reasons. Food, architecture, history, uniqueness, culture, people… I can think of countless reason to fall in love with a city or country.
With that in mind, I thought of shedding some light on my travel favorites based on different categories. Hope you enjoy and please feel free to let me know your thoughts in the comments.
Favorite Food: Thailand
When it comes to food, my favorite travel destination is definitely Thailand. Specifically for its street food. I was blown away by the diversity and flavor pallets that you get to encounter all across the country. And on top of that it’s more than affordable by European standards with amazing. I believe that I did not eat the same dish twice due to the fact that every street cart or kitchen has their own individual menu.
So if you go to Thailand, make sure to allow yourself to splurge and enjoy all the deliciousness that you can find 😋

How do you like NYC food wise?

I am very torn when it comes to New York’s food scene. Obviously, there is a huge diversity of cuisines, I can’t think of anything that you can’t get here. But I keep running into the impression, that the product quality (e.g. base produce freshness and flavor) is not necessarily the greatest. Some restaurants seem to be compensating with seasoning and/or lots of sugar, which is a shame. It can overpower the dish and leave me full but unsatisfied.

I totally agree with you. The extra seasoning, come on!!!!
My main problems with food in New York are the price (quality of food + quality of service) and the limited options in terms of street food which seem to be always the same. I’m talking about Manhattan because I’ve never been fortunate enough to spend enough time to wander beyond Brooklyn.
During our last visit, Traders Joe became our saviour. Fresh product to picnic in the hotel room!

That is a very accurate description. New York Food is definitely costly. Unless you want to go the fast food route, but then you have to pay in a different currency aka health wise 😜
There are more interesting and good places to eat in Manhattan, Brooklyn (where I live) has even less street food and it’s more difficult to distinguish great from average restaurants.

Yes, like you we find it hard to list favourite foods but our top nationalities are Mexican, Turkish and Thai. All equally varied and delicious so we couldn’t decide on our favourite out of those 3 😁

That was a roasted scorpion. We got that and some roasted bugs. Simple though by European standards unusual finger food. At the end of the day, they were crunchy and tasted like potatoe chips 🦂🪳🦗😇

I’ve never been to Thailand, but I’ve had Thai food and I enjoy it! But some of my favorite cuisines I’ve encountered on my travels have got to be Polish, Georgian, Spanish, and Taiwanese. Basically anything meat-heavy and carb-loaded, with a hint of spice. Hope to travel more to experience more delicious cuisines out there, for sure!

I have never had Georgian food, but I surprisingly love Polish comfort cuisine. One of my best friends is Polish and she would sometimes spoil me with home-cooked lunches while she was on maternity leave 😋

I do love Thai food, but I would have to go with Japanese. I lived in Japan for 3+ years and loved the seafood, sushi, sashimi, tempura, veggie and rice-based dishes. I had committed to leaving meat behind years before, and this was an easy cuisine to love. And the presentations of the food were always beautiful!

I do love Japanese food as well and visiting Japan is on my bucket list. Who knows, I might change my mind once I get to experience Japanese food first hand 😉
