Travel Favorites: Feeling like royalty (Service)

Do you get tongue tide like me, when people ask you for your favorite travel destination? Personally, I find it impossible to pick just one. I have been privileged to visit so many amazing places and honestly can appreciate every single one for different reasons. Food, architecture, history, uniqueness, culture, people… I can think of countless reason to fall in love with a city or country.

With that in mind, I thought of shedding some light on my travel favorites based on different categories. Hope you enjoy and please feel free to let me know your thoughts in the comments.

Favorite Service: Mauritius

As much as I love individual travel, I have taken a couple of All-inclusive vacations along the way. One of those was shortly after I received my Master’s degree. In Aug 2012, my then-boyfriend and I treated ourselves to a 13 day stay in Mauritius in the middle of the Indian ocean.

We decided on the Veranda Paul et Virginie Resort in Grand Gaube, which is in the north of the island which back then was rated with 2,5 stars. That rating did not do the resort and the staff any justice though. From the moment we got there, we were treated and pampered at every step of the way. Starting with complementary welcome massages, every room and corridor smelling of fresh flowers, delicious food, great drinks, lovely and approachable staff that seemed to anticipate your every need… I kept exclaiming every couple of days “If this is 2,5 stars, what are 5 stars supposed to be like!?” I felt like we were treated like royalty.

Additionally, Mauritius had perfect weather during our stay with 25°C (77°F) every day, close to cloudless skies, nice beaches, beautiful coral reefs, luscious green mountains… It was the perfect getaway to recharge. And I dream back to this vacation regularly and hope to return someday.

How about you?
What is your favorite city?

  1. I’ve yet to visit Mauritius, but it looks like tropical paradise. I’d say the country I’ve been to with the best customer service has got to be Japan: staff are friendly, super-polite, and willing to help. I was astounded by the difference, especially coming from the US and France, which are notorious for being average to egregious, depending where you go. Thanks for sharing your findings!

  2. I would escape there right now. Looks so gorgeous. You are right, when you travel a lot it is so hard to choose favorite city. Every place is unique and can be very interesting.
